Overview

Verdant began with a simple but uncomfortable question: how can an organisation credibly claim progress toward net-zero if it cannot measure its own emissions in real time? Most enterprises rely on annual spreadsheets compiled months after the fact, leaving leadership to steer climate strategy by looking in the rear-view mirror. We set out to build a platform that turns carbon from a once-a-year reporting chore into a living operational metric — as visible and actionable as revenue or cash flow.

The challenge

Emissions data is notoriously fragmented. Scope 1 and 2 figures live in utility bills and fleet logs, while the far larger Scope 3 footprint is scattered across hundreds of suppliers, each reporting in different units, standards and intervals. Teams were spending entire quarters cleaning data instead of cutting carbon, and the resulting reports were too stale to inform real decisions. We needed to unify these sources into one trusted system without asking every stakeholder to change how they work.

Our approach

We designed Verdant around three principles: automate ingestion, standardise everything to a single emissions ledger, and surface insight where decisions are actually made. Connectors pull data directly from utilities, ERP systems and supplier portals, then map each line item to recognised emission factors. A clear, audit-ready dashboard lets sustainability leads drill from company-wide totals down to a single shipment, while forecasting models show the projected impact of each reduction initiative before a budget is committed.

Outcomes

Within the first year, partner organisations cut reporting time by 70% and identified verified reduction opportunities equal to 18% of their total footprint. More importantly, climate targets moved out of the annual report and into weekly operating reviews — giving teams the same cadence of feedback for carbon that they already had for cost. Verdant now underpins net-zero roadmaps that are not just ambitious, but measurable, transparent and defensible.
